walking along a path this sunny afternoon
i feel the ground through the soles of my shoes
—gravel, roots, last autumn’s leaves.
i feel my heel strike, the roll across my arch, pad, toes
push off, leg swings through
with each step i feel
the rise of my spine,
sway of my arms,
pace of my thoughts
with each step i hear
—gravel, roots, last autumn’s leaves
my thoughts
drop
and roll along
the ground
i slow down.
the path rises up and i feel my body receiving
sound
silence
space
the wetness of taste.
